Meadows Race & Big Mountain Team was founded in 1969 one year after Mt Hood Meadows opened to the public. MRT has a rich history of athletic excellence with a mission of Enhancing Lives through Alpine Skiing. MRT works to foster a community that inspires all of its members to reach their full potential both on and off the slopes. We seek to inspire youth to become healthier, happier, and wiser versions of themselves through teaching the fundamentals of alpine skiing while instilling our core values of MRT LEADS. M-Mindset for growth, R-Responsibility, T-Team, L-Lifelong Love of Sport, E-Effort, A-Attitude, D-Domain Mastery (mental, physical, equipment, technical/tactical learning), and S-Sportsmanship.

While MRT has inspired Olympians along the way including Bill Johnson, Vic Wilde, and Jackie Wiles, it has inspired far more athletes to work hard toward their lifelong goals, not be afraid of setbacks, and to strive to continually improve. Our family-based approach to skiing and growth makes the ski team enjoyable and enriching for everyone in the family! MRT has one the most certified and experienced staff in the Pacific Northwest.  MRT is also currently certified by US Ski and Snowboard at the Silver Level.  www.meadowsraceteam.org

About MRT

Meadows Race Team is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to enhance lives through the sport of alpine skiing. MRT is dedicated to creating a FUN environment that promotes a life-long love of skiing and racing for the athletes from 6 years old to 19 years old.

Meadows Race Team celebrates its 50th anniversary during the 2019/20 season. Meadows Race Team was started 1969 one year after the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort opened for business in 1968. Like many US ski areas, coaches were employed from around the world. The first head coach, Lionel Wibault, was from Chamonix, France and had suffered a career ending broken femur while racing for the French National Team during the 1967-68 season. He continued his passion for skiing and became our head coach for the 1969 season. Lionel is still active as a ski coach/instructor, Mt. guide and artist. Like Lionel’s story, our team mission is to inspire a life-long love of sport and skiing. Meadows Race Team has employed many notable staff during its 50 years. Erik Sailer of Buck Hill and Erik Sailer Ski Camps (now 94 and still coaching) served as a head coach after Lionel. Additionally, Kevin McDevitt, who serves as the chief technical adviser to the World Cup gained his experience and passion on Mt. Hood serving as a program director and head coach. Mt. Hood Meadows Race Team like Mt Hood Meadows has served the racing community very well for its 50 years because it has strived for continuous improvement. Join our community and our family in your journey to make alpine skiing part of your life and passion.
